The Brooklyn Shades

There is actually no double-meaning behind this article title – we really just bought these glasses from a little boutique in Brooklyn last week, and they are an instant favourite. Paired here with this nautical-inspired look, they were very necessary in the sunny but cold midtown New York City.

Living the #SaksLife

On the long list of Must See/Must Try/Must Shop while in New York City, Saks Fifth Avenue ranked highly. And for good reason. This luxury department store has been featured in numerous films, shows and novels as a pivotal fashion institute of Manhattan, and flanks the luxurious Fifth Avenue shopping district. It might have been cold, but our hearts were warm as we walked through the historic building and soaked in all the FASHION.

Bundled Up In Gotham

Despite how beautiful, inspiring, enticing, exciting and invigorating New York City was, it was also another amazing verb: COLD. The sun may be shining here, but we truly bundled ourselves well before we stepped out into Manhattan, and usually that meant a minimum of three layers of clothing. But as they say, Fall is usually the favourite month of fashionites (not only because of Fashion Month) because they get to layer, layer and layer! So no, we weren’t complaining too much. And how could we? The sounds of taxis, the hustle of Manhattanites, the chilly wind – it was all part of our NYC experience.

Silk Flowers on my Dress

Today’s fashion world loves to juxtapose old-standing ideals of beauty and design, and this piece from Lord & Taylor is the perfect example of the same. Who would imagine a sweatshirt dress to have over-sized silk flowers on it? This was an insanely comfortable item to explore Toronto’s Bloor Street in, and best of all, it was cozy against the chilly winds of Ontario. Win win in our books!

Coffee For One

The one thing we definitely had time for in Toronto during WMCFW was coffee – on-the-go, in our rooms, with every meal, and as a stand alone meal. The best part was that Toronto was offering the new Starbucks La Boulange collection – pretty pastries and dainty new packaging with a very French feel. Our very own @Mon_Mode decided to take a cue from Boulange and dress the part.

The Best of World MasterCard Fashion Week

The highly anticipated World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto, Canada was 5 days filled with talent, style and amazing people. Sponsored by The Ritz Carlton, Joe Fresh, Redken, Krugs and many other renowned names in the industry, the entire event was outstanding and made us proud to be Canadian.

Teddy Bears Collide

Cold & windy Toronto called for this layered and fuzzy look to keep the warmth in and the style out, so to speak. This skirt was another major find in Amsterdam back in 2013, and it always seems to catch attention and somehow works for both daywear and evening. This was the last from WMCFW and the faux-bob effect with the hood and the hair is pretty cool, no?

Hilary MacMillan Fall/Winter 2015 Studio Presentation

This beautiful and well thought out collection by Hilary was amongst our top 3 at WCMFW this circuit. The styling was on point, the hair / make-up just effortless enough, the live band added the right amount of cool calm – but the most important, of course, were the clothes. Beautiful separates in whites, blacks and nudes, with pops of red. The right amount of fur and leather met soft and delicate lace. This was by far the most wearable collection, and the wonderfully presented “Elastic Heart” is still playing in our heads!

Rudsak Fall/Winter 2015 Runway Show

The “cool rebel” design house of Rudsak closed out the fourth day of WMCFW this season, and the travel themed runway show was a big hit with the fashion crowd in the packed venue. There was a short black and white film that started the show, and the first model walked down the runway with a rolling carry-on, as a massive airport themed display showcased global cities. We were transported to a cold day (with snow on the runway) when you’re in between airports, where comfort and practicality meets chic and sophisticated.
