Having just retuned from Barbados, I just want to share all my memories of the beautiful island. I cannot say enough good things about this trip, from the culture, the people, the variety of things to do, the food and the nature. Barbados is so small, yet so big and it feels nice to be able to explore a destination to a point where you feel like you know the place. I felt like this with Barbados. There are way to may photos beyond the "top 5 things to do in Barbados", so I decided to include a few more of my favourites that didn't fit in this category. For a special place to stay on the island, I can highly recommend the Sea Breeze Beach House.
HARRISON CAVE
This is not just a cave, it is also a beautiful oasis with a rich green garden and plants. It is wonderful to sit in the garden and admire the tropical surroundings Harrison Cave has to offer. The Cave itself is a crystallized, limestone cave that stretches 2.7 km underground with some amazing pools and impressive columns. If you love nature, and want to be amazed by its raw beauty - this is definitely a must visit spot for you!
BRIDGETOWN - THE CAPITAL OF BARBADOS
Bridgetown is the capital of Barbados, and if you are venturing out of your hotel (which I really encourage you to do!), you should pay Bridgetown a visit. Coming from North America, I imaged the capital to be this booming, and huge metropolis (I know, I should have done my research!) but it is a fairly calm and cute city. Overall the population of Barbados is 300K all together, and Bridgetown is 110K of that. It has some beautiful architecture like the Parliament Museum, the Independence Arch, the Marina, Horse Track and much more to see. I visited on a bank holiday, so the city was much calmer than usually but it was also amazing to take photos. Note that everything is closed on Bank holidays!
CLIFFS - NORTH COAST BARBADOS
During our 7hr Island Safari Tour we visited many spots throughout the entire Island, but these Cliffs on the most north edge of Barbados took my breath away! I am a huge lover of wave watching anyway, but what was extremely special about this particular spot is that the way cliffs with crashing waves in the same view as a calm sandy beach that was almost like a basin! The sheer beauty of nature is incredible and again, said this before but Barbados is so small, yet so large in its offerings. The Island Safari was amazing in the sense that we covered the entire island, and I felt like I really got to know Barbados.
OISTINS FISH FRY
This Fish Fry is right next to the Fish market in Christ Church and is open every day. On a Friday night, literally everyone- both tourists and locals head to the fish fry for a good meal and a good time. Small vendors sell handmade souvenirs and other trinkets, there is a variety of food to buy but the biggest attraction is the selection of dish dishes like Red Snapper, Shrimp, Dolphin (which is only called that by locals, it is actually Mahi-Mahi) and lots more! These fish dishes are served with traditional rice and peas and macaroni pie and salads. People are dancing to pop music or in another part of the fish fry there is ball room dancing!
BEACH BBQ - OCEAN TWO HOTEL
This beach bbq is one of the most memorable evenings in Barbados for me. The Ocean Two hotel is located on the South side and has such an incredible beach lined with coconut trees. The picturesque scene creates the perfect back drop for the bbq cooked and served directly on the beach, under a beautiful chain of lights. Dishes like traditional fish and chicken recipes are served alongside a huge variety of sides and dessert. While dining, live singers made sure the ambience is just right! I highly recommend this for an unforgettable experience during your stay in Barbados.
In generous collaboration with Sea Breeze Beach House and Barbados Tourism.
