The newest trend on YouTube? Creating a capsule wardrobe. But what does all this mean? A Capsule wardrobe is a small selection of clothing items that you can mix and match to create different outfits. The capsule can be 10, 15, or 20 items - depending on your interpretation, and the key is that all these pieces pretty much match and go together. I think this is a great idea for someone who is lazy putting together outfits, who does not have time to think about what to wear, or for someone who spends endless time each morning trying to get dressed. This goes along with the trend of minimalism, and as much as I love how all of this sounds, I simply could not live (ok, this was super exaggerated!), well I would not have as much fun with Fashion as I do now.
It is very different to just have a capsule for work if you are getting dressed for the office every day. There is a great video resource here.
I reversed this concept of a capsule wardrobe in taking the items that I wear most and putting them away so I am forces to wear the remaining pieces in my wardrobe. Do you ever feel that you look the same, even though you keep adding cool pieces to your wardrobe? Do you ever catch yourself reaching for the same jeans day after day, week after week? I have a lot of "favourites" and ultimately I keep reaching for those. So I decided to take a break from favourites and make use of the other items I have.
I put these items away a few weeks ago and have caught myself multiple times searching for "my black denim culottes" or caramel pants I love. This just goes to show that I would literally just keep wearing the same things.
Ultimately this will also show which items I have not touched in this process of wearing the remaining things in my wardrobe (keep in mind that I rid my closet of all winter items already!). And these items will probably be donated or sold because they just keep hanging there for no reason and just take up space, simply they do not bring joy.
Do you accept the challenge of putting 10 of your most worn items away for a month or two and to wear what you have remaining in your closet? You will be surprised by your sense of habit by searching for those items that are put away, and by how interesting the outfits can be when you wear something you may have forgotten you had!
