Being back in the Caribbean is just such a dream. Curacao belongs to the Netherlands and as strange as that ay sound, it literally is amazing. The food is just like being in Amsterdam with some signature dishes like Croquettes and Fries with Peanut sauce. The language is called papiamento and is a combination of Dutch, Spanish, Portugese and English (as you can image that there is a huge mix of people bring their cultures together!). In comparison to Barbados, Curacao's vegetation seems a bit more dry but the beaches and cliffs are absolutely beautiful. I wanted to share some of my favourite spots we visited during our stay in Curacao - car rental required!
Moomba Beach Bar
Closest to our hotel, and our favourite breakfast spot! The beach her is super sandy, the water very blue. Once you step into the water there are some rocks so I would recommend bringing water shoes. The Beach Bar offers Breakfast, lunch and dinner and has free beach chairs to chill around in. The most impressive fact about Moomba is there there is a beach from luxury suite with its very own beach, check it out here.
Pirate Bay is another great Beach and great spot to indulge in some yummies. There are two restaurants there, the Pirate By and Tomatos. Tomatos serves up some delicious Pizza that can be enjoyed ocean side! It is gorgeous, especially at sunset the light and the ocean are incredible. There is a great beach bar inside Pirate bay that will quench your thirst, whatever you are craving.
Willhelmsted
The capital of the island is Willhelmsted, which is also part of the UNESCO world heritage. It's pastel coloured row of buildings are definitely the most iconic part of the city. I say city but really it is cute and quaint and very much walkable. I love the floating bridge that swings open for boats to get through (and you can actually stay on the bridge), the food market where locals sell hot lunches, fresh fruits and souvenirs. The side when you cross the bridge is called Punda, the other side is Otrobanda. Otrobanda is a bit more rough, but also filled with locals.
West punk
Half way across the island, so a full 30 min by car we reached Playa Forti, the first off many beaches. Curacao has 39 beaches, which are all beautiful and a little different from each other. West Punk's Playa Forti is mostly known for its cliff jumping. I mostly fell in love with the most turquoise water I have ever seen. The rock formations on the beach are stunning and make for a great picture!
The abandoned resort & Santa Martha View
While looking for the Santa Martha view, which is about 3KM off the main highway we got a touch lost. Well, rather we expected a bigger "viewpoint" but while getting lost we stumbled upon the Abandoned Resort. When I say Abandoned Resort, I mean exactly that. A huge, beautiful resort that is completely abandoned and it reminds of times when lots of tourists laid on the gorgeous beaches. There was only locals around, a true gem to find!
Santa Martha view is a small viewpoint that we found on the way back. Very beautiful, overlooking a small bay there boats are docked. very scenic and relaxing but only little shade here.
Blue Bay (Blaubaii)
This is the most hidden spot ever, but also one of the most beautiful! The Blue Bay is a small beach with pebbles and rocks but amazing turquoise water. The fishing boats are laying close to the shore and locals are unloading their daily catch. We decided to have a little breakfast here and it was absolutely amazing - highly recommend it!
