What better way to spend our first evening in Paris, than with the Founders of Atelier Cologne Sylvie and Chrostophe. Arriving at the HQ of Atelier Cologne, we went up to the 5th level of a massive traditional French building and found a beautifully arrange atelier. Each room belonged to one of the gorgeous fragrances and was decorated with the inspiration and ingredients of each scent. This allowed us to really dive into the thoughts and meaning behind each scent, as well as it was an interactive experience of seeing, touching and feeling what all went into the process of creating each cologne.
"Perfume should be as fun
as getting dressed up,
you don’t need a
signature scent"
- says Sylvie.
Sylvie and Christoph sat down with us and walked us through how they go about creating a scent. It can take anywhere from instantly to never to be able to create the perfect scent. Starting by identifying 10 different citrus scents - it turned out to be quite challenging to be able to know which is lemon vs lime vs orange, and this is only one of the many steps in creating a beautiful fragrance. The trained noses of the Atelier Cologne team carefully selects a combination of scents to make their colognes different, outstanding and versatile for both genders. The beauty of using these naturally extracts (some naturally derived, some with the help of chemicals if they cannot be derived in a natural way), truly smell different of each person. While the Vetiver Fatal (a rose inspired scent) smelled airy and light on Jeremiah, it was spicy on me. The beauty here is, the scents are unisex, so the possibilities are endless.
Atelier Cologne seems to be a very good representation of Sylvie! I had the pleasure of being seated next to her at the dinner at the Atelier that evening and could not help but be impressed by her style, her charisma and love for life. The Atelier Cologne Fragrances have all of that in them, adventure, being moldable, fresh and not settling for anything less that extraordinary.
Splitting her time between Paris and New York, just because she loves both - reminded me of myself and not wanting to choose. Sylvie is a true inspiration of following your dreams (I made this note as we were dining in her Atelier while the Eiffel Tower lit up and sparkled!). Epic Moments with extraordinary people.
