Create A Stylish Nursery
Setting up a nursery can be so overwhelming! One million ideas but only one room to work with?! I gathered my top tips of how to create a Stylish nursery. Keep in mind that this room will be the babies room, but especially during the first months it is mostly just a space where you will hang out, change little bebe and of course store all of the babies things. Do not stress about this space, even if you do not have a dedicated room, you can make a small corner in your bedroom the "nursery corner" or create the space little by little as more inspiration comes to you. Pinterest has a wealth of inspo, like an overwhelming amount of inspiration, so surely everyone can find something.
1. Pick a Theme or Color scheme
First things first, pick a theme or a colour scheme! Whether you want to stick with one colour, multiple colours (I wouldn't recommend more then 2-3) or a neutral colour scheme this step is very important not to go overboard with your purchases. It's easy to find so much inspo on Pinterest and narrow down what you want to do. Like I said its definitely easy to fall in love with many things you see online but in the end they all need to go together and the room should not feel overwhelming. Remember that a baby takes in all the things yu can see after only a few weeks, so make sure to create a space thats is calming and serene.
2. Feature Wall
That is usually the wall where the crib is placed. We opted for a beautiful wallpaper by Livette's Wallpaper - she has tonnes of trendy wall paper designs that are great for either gender, or of course gender neutral like we picked. The adhesive backing of the wall paper makes the process of applying mess-free. Within a short time we were able to create this statement wall which really creates a focal point in the nursery. To finish off the wall, we created this papas + palm leaf piece (pretty easy to create with the florist foam, some wire and hot glue!). We were thinking about getting a wooden sign with Avia's name made, but didn't get around to it in the end. Voila, there you have a feature wall in your nursery.
3. Create a Comfy Corner
Whether your baby is going to sleep in the nursery right away or at 1 year, the space is still great to hang out and play. Creating a cozy hang out space is great for baby + parents as the nursery should not just be for sleeping or changing (in my opinion anyway!). Whether you want a rocking chair, or sofa - we opted for a rocking chair but I don't think its necessary - adding a canopy above just makes the space instantly cozy and dreamy. You may add little lights inside (Avia loves lights and we plan on adding them still!) of even a mobile that baby can look at while hanging with you (we got ours from Pehr via West Coast Kids).
A big blanket like this 'Canada' one we got from LouLou Lollipop is also a great thing to add here for extra comfort. And the perfect addition to any nursery? A stuffed animal with a good cause, like Stella, Avia's polar bear friend we got from Cuddle & Kind.
4. Add Sentimental Decor
In terms of decor, I would suggest to pick a few items that encourage conversation. I picked prints from Desenio that are travel themed, as well as a wooden globe! We also used the polaroids from our baby shower to talk about all the people who have celebrated our bebe already. Other sentimental items would be an ultrasound picture, an image of us when we found out about the pregnancy - there are countless ideas! Just think about what you want to chat with your baby about!
5. Add Some Greens
Plants are amazing for looks but also for the air quality in your nursery! While some may just think about a humidifier and air purifier, plants can do the same thing and are a decor item at the same time. Fresh greens just look so pretty on a shelf or side table. It is also amazing to see them grow as your baby grows. If you do not have a green thumb, maybe artificial plants are the way to go for you (but then definitely add that humidifier!!).
Have fun creating your stylish nursery! Remember often less is more, so do not go overboard in your choices! There is always time to add pieces even once baby is born.
