I know that we all love shopping, but sometimes we don’t have the time, the energy (or the funds) to constantly buy new pieces, right? This is why it can be fun to play around with a few things that are already in your closet (or, ahem, in your husband’s closet?). I am a huge fan of buying trend pieces that really stick out, but I have also recently been beginning to get a lot more creative with existing pieces, and re-purposing them to match today’s trend. Case in point: this $7 button-up dress shirt that my husband was completely ready to trash! Read on to see how I not only salvaged the shirt but ended up creating three distinct looks out of a single men’s dress shirt!
Button the shirt only half way up from the bottom and pull the top shoulder parts over your shoulders. This will create an “off shoulder top” effect in a very instantly cool way. I love this effortless look!
one OFF SHOULDER
two ONE SLEEVE
Putting on the shirt on just one arm might be strange but the result is amazing – I think so anyway! I wore the shirt like this during Fashion Week (here) and got many requests to explain more of how I managed to create the style. Pretty simple, literally just put the shirt on one arm and button it up. Now either leave the shirt hanging or tie the bottom in a knot.
three HALF TUCKED
As reported from the Runway in Milan here, the half tucked shirt is a major trend alert. Its a simple but trendy way to make an outfit interesting. The “boyfriend” look totally comes out here. I can imagine to wear the shirt this way with a pencil skirt for a more feminine look as well.
