ประเทศไทย
Thailand is full of culture and kindness, maybe because of its history in general. Thailand (the word 'Thai' means free, so the country's name literally translates to 'Freedom-Land') is named as such because it has never been colonized and this truly shines through when visiting this rich culture and its amazing people who embrace each visiter.
For the longest time, Thailand was known for its beautiful beaches, countless temples and yummy food. (P.S. You can check out my must visit food stops here!) While those are all great reasons to visit, today I am sharing many reasons to add to your list. If you cannot decide between the history-rich, buzzing city, and a sweet and tranquil island - when visiting Thailand you can have it all.
The three must visit places to get to know the versatile offerings of Thailand are Bangkok, Trang and Phuket but of course there are many more! Below, I am sharing my top highlights from the capital of Thailand: Bangkok.
must see in bangkok
Wat Pho, Bangkok
Learning from our local guide (which I highly recommend hiring at least for a day or two during your trip) about the people, I started to understand the meaning behind buddhism and the beauty that is associated with the mindset of its people. Thailand is not exclusively Buddhist, there are many religions and the Buddhists are welcoming it. Visiting many temples, I felt shy at first but each person is there for a reason and there is no bad feelings or looks about it. Exploring the rich and beautiful architecture and being able to share in the presence of each individual in the temple is just beautiful. It is therapeutic, which ties into the fact that beauty can be found in many different places in Thailand.
Bangkok is not only the home of the royal temple which houses the King and Queen of Thailand, but also many other gorgeous temples such as Wat Pho and Wat Arun which are just across the river from each other. Wat Pho has been a popular place to visit with it's world the reclining buddha. It is fascinating to see locals and visitors meditating in the enormous temple grounds, where you feel a certain aura that is hard to explain. My heart felt full and light at the same time.
must experience in bangkok
Canals aka "Brooklyn of Bangkok"
Bangkok has a well connected road system but if you are looking for the real experience, you must take a boat through the canals. You can hire a private boot for an exclusive ride through the waterways of Bangkok and view the city from the water. Lots of locals still use this system of transport, and we got to enjoy some water boat ice cream during our tour! It was so delicious!
must stay in bangkok
The St. Regis Bangkok
When searching for your Bangkok accommodations, I highly recommend the most exquisite hotel I have stayed yet! I am not saying this lightly, the St. Regis Bangkok is the real big deal. From the first step into the hotel, the warmth and hospitality of the staff shines through.
Imagine Thai hospitality combined with the most luxurious hotel experience. To mention a few of the very many highlights: the Butler service which takes on any personal task, daily ironing, shoe shining, daily turn down service, coffee delivery and more.
Starting a day with the buffet offering gourmet, very healthy made to order offering like flax pancakes or authentic Thai soup, tropical fruits, or bacon and eggs is a treat in itself. The buffet is massive and delicious - usually it is either or! Afterwards it is perfect to take advantage of the spa offerings. After a facial or massage (all with Elemis products!) the spa area is the absolute perfect spot to unwind. Of course the pool is also perfect, I found it the absolute best spot to watch the sunset!
As you can tell, I absoutely loved Bangkok and honestly can't wait to return. Have you ever been? If you haven't, which one of my recommends would you be interested in?
