#MonDoxistBebe
Just the thought of our bebe's first party got us really excited and since we love planning events we could not wait to get started a few months ago. We decided on a Midsummer boho picnic to celebrate our little girl - and trust me she loved it because she was kicking up a storm while the celebrations were going on.
As a couple who enjoys planning events and parties, Covid really challenged us to create something special during this time that is also safe and "physically distanced". An outdoor event seemed best, and we have been enjoying quite a lot of picnics this year. We went for a whimsical and lighthearted feel and really achieved that with a lot of natural colours and materials as key elements. Keep in mind that this was also a lot of our home decor (like pampas, white sheets, wicker poufs, rugs etc.).
THE SWEETS & DRINKS
We decided to combine the sweets and drink station and created a selection of menus for our guests. The sweets - cake and macaroons made by my talented mom were an absolute hit. Our 40 guests polished off the 2 tier cake! A selection of indian sweets called burfi could not be missed either.
In terms of drinks were wanted to offer an interesting selection and most importantly, things that we absolutely love. This includes my go-to during pregnancy Seedlip non-alcoholic botanical spirit which is an amazing base for Mocktails (comes in three flavours of garden 108, Spice 94, Grove 42) which are all amazing and so different from each other, Rise Kombucha in a multitude of flavours (this was a hit for the kids as well - and parents were happy the little ones had a healthy option!), and of course the beautiful La Crema Rosé by Jackson Family Wines - a refreshing and fruity choice for a midsummer picnic among Cold brew coffee and lemon water.
We used a vintage dresser and metal buckets to display all of these items in an interesting way, created a backdrop of white sheets which worked well for photos and added to the over midsummer theme.
THE FOOD SPREAD
The wood palette table, covered by tables clothes, 5 vases of pampas, eucalyptus and charcuterie was the focal point of the event. The low table allowed 10 seats (with distance) and we created additional "living rooms" around the garden for guests to hang out. The focal point of the table was a large charcuterie filled with fruit, meats, crackers, and a wide selection of Tre Stelle and Castello cheeses, along with a beautiful bocconcini salad from the Tre Stelle 60th anniversary cookbook which added a great touch and was super popular. A little must for us was also pizza and samosas - just because we looveeeee.
Both of these games can be adjusted based on the theme of your party! Our prizes were amazing gift baskets sponsored by Aveeno/Neutrogena and the Tre Stelle 60th Anniversary cookbook - make the prizes attractive!!
THE GAMES & FUN
A few fun games never hurt so we thought two that really engaged the guests:
1. Clothes pin game: each person gets a clothes pin upon entry. Whoever says the word "baby" must give his/her clothes pin to the person who heard it. The person with the most pins wins!
2. Who Does It Better: a twist on the "shoe game" which we already played at one of our wedding celebrations! We asked our bridal party to participate again and asked them "Who can change a diaper faster", "Who will give in quicker", "Who will be more sleep deprived" etc.
THE GUESTBOOK
We wanted to make the guestbook an interactive experience for us and our guests. So what is better than taking pretty pictures, capturing moments and turning them into memories with the help of Instax! The Instax Mini was the perfect little camera top capture these moments, and the instant picture was used to leave us and bebe little notes! We also used the Instax as the backdrop by pinning the pictures onto string - it turned out so absolutely beautiful.
We added a little "Instagram Frame" with our hashtag and date of the party which was a hit!
We are so pleased with how our Bebe Shower turned out, and hope to inspire you to use some ideas for your upcoming party. Since the colder season is upon us, you can definitely create a similar set up indoors (maybe in a community hall, gym etc) just make use of a lot of white sheets to cover any areas you do not want shown in any pictures. Happy picnic-ing! The baby Shower concluded the second trimester, read all about my second trimester experience here!
